Our Stories of Childhood Poverty
As we prepare for our study of childhood poverty this fall, we are aware that some of our own members experienced poverty at some point in childhood. We would like to collect your stories and print them to share within the congregation as a way to help us think about what it's like to be poor as a child.
We will gather your stories over the next three weeks. If you'd like to participate, write your story (suggestion around 300 words), sharing 1) your personal experience living in poverty and 2) what helped you survive and escape poverty.
Note that these are personal experiences, not stories about other people you knew who were poor. (There will be an opportunity to share those too - in the Sunday School class led by Tim Peck and Mary Kirkpatrick.)
You may submit your story by email to Heather Amick, in a typed or hand-written document left for Heather in the office, or simply speak it and allow us to transcribe it - Heather will be available after both services September 3, 10 and 17.
There will be a story posted on the Childhood Poverty bulletin board to give you an idea of one way to write your story. We look forward to hearing from you.
