Ministry Goals and Activities

MINISTRY GOAL: 
Make mission activity a vibrant part of our lives and church culture.

Ministry Activities:

    engage in a broad range of mission opportunities  (Mission Committee; ongoing)

    offer non-construction adult mission trips (Mission Committee; Fall 2007 and annually thereafter)

    provide an intergenerational mission opportunity (Mission Committee in consultation with Children and Youth Ministries Committee; Fall 2008)

    invite speakers from churches with dynamic mission programs to share ideas and experiences with us (Mission Committee in consultation with Adult and Older Adult Ministries Committee; Fall 2008)

    partner with another church or faith community to meet a local need  (Mission Committee; partnership formed by Spring 2009)

    NOTE:  Many resources are available through the General Assembly, Synod and Presbytery which can be very helpful in implementing these ministry activities.

MINISTRY GOAL:
Plan and implement activities that welcome newcomers and consciously integrate new members into the church family, while continuing to foster a deep sense of community within the church.

Ministry Activities:

    develop plans to strengthen hospitality to newcomers and assimilation of new members  (New Member Committee with support from Finance and Stewardship Committee; Spring 2008)

    provide and annual community celebration on the lawn  (New Member Committee with support from Fellowship Committee; Fall 2008)

    organize semi-annual activity for newcomers and new members  (New Member Committee; Fall 2008)

    hold annual church-wide retreat off site  (Fellowship Committee; Fall 2009)

    NOTE:  Many resources are available through the General Assembly, Synod and Presbytery which can be very helpful in implementing these ministry activities.

MINISTRY GOAL:
Nurture the spiritual life of our congregation.

     Ministry Activities:

    develop a plan for meeting the music ministry staffing and program needs  (a task force formed with one appointed by each of the following: Personnel Committee (task force chair), Worship Committee, Children and Youth Ministries Committee, Chancel Choir, YES Music Team, Men's Chorus, and Handbells with the pastors serving as ex. officio's and in consultation with the music staff; Summer 2007.  Plan formed and presented to Session; early Spring 2008)

    establish an ongoing program of spiritual formation and development that may include small groups, classes and retreats on prayer, the creeds, music, and meditation  (Adult and Older Adult Ministries Committee; Spring 2009)

    build a foundation of faith for families by offering parenting classes on faith development of children and include home Bible studies and devotional guides  (Children and Youth Ministries Committee and Adult and Older Adult Ministries Committee; Spring 2009)

MINISTRY GOAL:
Strengthen and broaden the care we offer one another in all life's situations, recognizing the value of each person in our church family.

     Ministry Activities:

    identify and reach out to members who have become less involved  (Congregational Care Committee; Fall 2007)

    develop a plan to better meet the transportation needs of our church  (a task force formed with one appointed by each of the following committees: Adult and Older Adult Ministries, Children and Youth Ministries, Congregational Care, Fellowship, Mission, with the Associate Pastor and Christian Educator serving as ex. officio's; Fall 2007)

    explore ways to address the health care needs of the congregation (paid, part-time congregational nurse, Stephen Ministry, etc.)  (Congregational Care Committee in consultation with Personnel Committee; present plan Spring 2008)

    establish support groups for those with similar life situations (single parents, divorce, widows/widowers, etc.)  (Congregational CareCommittee in consultation with Adult and Older Adult Ministries Committee; Fall 2008)

    maintain and utilize a time and talent electronic database of members  (Finance and Stewardship Committee; Fall 2008)

    empower lay leadership through innovative training  (Adult and Older Adult Ministries Committee in consultation with Finance and Stewardship Committee; Fall 2008)

MINISTRY GOAL
Implement the Church Facilities Master Plan recommendations.

     Ministry Activities:

          prayerfully consider and select the initial capital improvements phase to pursue and     
          prioritize these improvements
(Session in consultation with the Capital Exploratory
          Committee and congregation; Fall/Winter 2008)

          evaluate the congregation's giving potential and conduct a capital campaign to fund    
          planned capital improvements
(Session form a Campaign Task Force; Winter/Spring 2009)

          hire an Architectural Engineering firm to design the first phase of improvements (Session 
          form a Project Task Force, to oversee the building project, and a Finance Task Force, to
          acquire the financing while pledges are forthcoming; Spring 2009)

          begin the improvements construction process (Fall/Winter 2009)
